Cashless Pokies
NSW may move toward mandated cashless pokies. AGBrief Editorial - October 6, 2020. Patrons of poker machines in the state of New South Wales may soon be required to register for government-issued gambling cards and to be prevented from using cash. Do cashless pokies cause higher losses? Marjorie Preston - October 18, 2019. When it comes to gambling, Australians are, hands down, the world’s biggest losers. On average, in 2017 every person in the Land Down Under lost the equivalent of AU$1,000. The Cashless Debit Card, which prevents welfare being used for gambling, was introduced a year ago but Dr Russell said pokie spendings would constantly fluctuate. NSW will move to completely cashless poker machines and players will be required to register for a government-issued gambling card in the most significant gaming reforms in the state's history.
Cashless poker machines in New South Wales have been welcomed by anti-gambling advocates. But it loses the meaning of “real” money for the gamblers who are using a pre-loaded card.
Tim Costello who is the Alliance for Gambling Reform’s chief advocate said one thing. For his words, the NSW government have recognised the extensive loss pokie machines do in the state.
The government is offering changes. These changes would require pokie machine players to register and pre-load money to a government-issued card. As well as, it would work in a similar way to cashless Opal cards for public transport. This card will connect to the state’s exclusion register. Also, it will prevent it from being used by multiple players. This proposal surprised the state’s clubs.
Dominello reportedly voiced his support for the cashless ‘pokies’ scheme only a week after releasing draft legislation that would implement a series of new measures intended to help reduce gambling-related harm across New South Wales.
Everyone was waiting for info about how this card scheme would work. Mr Costello said that their problem would be if players lost the feeling of losing real money if everything was digital.
Last week, Mr Dominello released plan harm minimisation legislation for public consultation. In his opinion, facial recognition is a helpful thing to identify problem gamblers. But, ClubsNSW and the hotels association have criticised the draft. They said that facial recognition would cost the industry millions of dollars.
Victor Dominello is Senior cabinet minister, So, he has responsibility for gambling and he has crossbench support in the upper house for the changes.
To be sure about the consequences are not exist to develop harms, the government should look at safeguards.
In conclusion, NSW government offers mandatory Cashless Poker Machines card.

ASX-listed Aristocrat Gaming has rolled out its Aristocrat Future Leaders program.
Casino Beats reports the program is a comprehensive educational track that creates an opportunity for recent graduate students in the United States to learn the land-based gaming industry from the pokies manufacturer.
The Aristocrat Future Leaders rotational program offers full-time job opportunities for recent college graduates.
In this role, participants will rotate through a variety of major commercial departments including finance, operations, marketing and others.
Each graduate will spend approximately eight months in each department, with an “immersive educational experience” promised.
The rotational program is also said to offer competitive benefits and compensation to attract nationwide applicants.
“We’re excited to invest in the future of gaming with the introduction of Aristocrat Future Leaders,” president of Aristocrat Gaming Hector Fernandez said.
“By prioritising education and placing the gaming supplier industry at the forefront of career opportunities, we look forward to welcoming top talent that will grow their career with Aristocrat for the long term.”
Last year, Aristocrat became an official partner of the Las Vegas Raiders and linked up with US casino operator Boyd Gaming to debut its cashless wagering digital wallet technology at the firm’s Blue Chip Casino Resort Spa in Michigan City, Indiana.
The feature sees patrons place cash on account at the cashier cage then use their player loyalty card to instantly access those funds on the casino floor.
The digital wallet eliminates the need to handle cash at pokies machines or redeem tickets, creating a frictionless experience for the customer.

A Californian gaming destination has launched a cashless wagering program, calling the move historic.
Casino Beats reported in December that Morongo Casino Resort and Spa has partnered with Marker Trax, which will run through the Konami Gaming’s Synkros casino management system, for a debut that Morongo says will make it the nation’s first tribal casino to offer cashless casino poker machines.
The aim is to allow guests to conveniently and securely apply, get approved and begin using their digital market, all in under five minutes, and electronically, rather than retrieving cash.
Those enrolled in a PIN-protected Synkros cashless wagering account can use their Marker Trax credit line to play electronically on any machine in the casino.
“We’re excited to be working with Marker Trax to introduce cashless wagering markers to our guests,” chief operating officer of Morongo Casino Richard St-Jean said.
“The convenience and ease of Marker Trax will be a huge bonus for our players and underscores Morongo’s history of embracing state-of-the-art technology to enhance our gaming experience.

“Morongo guests will be the first outside Nevada to enjoy Marker Trax cashless slot markers, thanks to the leadership of Richard St Jean and his team, Marker Trax’s strong launch success, and Synkros’ robust core environment,” executive vice president and chief operating officer at Konami Gaming Tom Jingoli said.
